Pedestrian Network - Phase 1
Decision Maker: Environment Cabinet Member Meeting, Cabinet Member for Environment
Decision status: Recommendations Approved
Is Key decision?: Yes
Is subject to call in?: Yes
Purpose:
Approval to implement physical improvements to
the walking network.
Decision:
(1) That the Cabinet Member notes the consultation results and instructs Officers to begin implementation of the scheme.
Reasons for the decision:
1. The Pedestrian Network improvements will target key areas in the city which are heavily used by pedestrians but fail to offer adequate pedestrian facilities. This project will benefit local businesses, residents and visitors by creating a more attractive, accessible and legible route along the seafront and enhance the pedestrian connection between The Lanes and the seafront.
Alternative options considered:
1. Alternative options to improve the route for pedestrians have been considered and rejected throughout the design process. The consultation process was designed to identify any preferable options but consultees were overwhelmingly in favour of the design as it stood, with the exception of the number of trees.
2. The Design Team will continue to examine the feasibility of increasing the number of trees in the scheme.
