University of Sussex - Listed Building Heritage Partnership Agreement

Decision Maker: Economic Development & Culture Committee

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

A report seeking approval of a formal Listed Building Heritage Partnership Agreement, in partnership with the University of Sussex and English Heritage, following public consultation on the draft document.

Decision:

RESOLVED – (1) That the Committee enters into a Listed Building Heritage Partnership Agreement with English Heritage and the University of Sussex for land at the University of Sussex under The Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) (Heritage Partnership Agreements) (England) Regulations 2014; and

(2)That authority to sign the Listed Building Heritage Partnership Agreement be delegated to the Chief Executive and the Head of City Planning and Development.

Reasons for the decision:

To seek approval for the final Listed Building Heritage Partnership Agreement.

Alternative options considered:

The only alternative option would be to continue with the current arrangement whereby a non-statutory set of guidelines is in place and the University would have to continue to apply for individual Listed Building Consent to address issues as and when they arise in each case. The University currently makes several such application annually (for which no fee is payable to the Council) and the LBHPA would therefore be a more cost effective solution for both the Council and the University (and for English Heritage as a statutory consultee).
