Infestation of Poison Hemlock in Wild Park Local Nature Reserve

We the undersigned petition Brighton & Hove Council to please employ a team of people to properly control this infestation of poison hemlock in Wild Park Local Nature Reserve.

Outdoors walking this year, I have observed this infestation of about 40 poison hemlock plants, growing on the bank of earth, which is next to the new south bound bus stop for wild park on the Ditchling Road, which is also adjacent to Standean Farm's livestock grazing fields there, which are also in Wild Park local nature reserve.

Wild Park local nature reserve is wholly owned by Brighton & Hove City Council. This bank of earth was imported by the city council a few years ago to create a bank of earth to prevent unauthorised encampments.

Ecologically, poison hemlock is not native to Wild Park, this poison hemlock has arrived by accident, as seed in the earth imported by Brighton & Hove City Council to create this bank of earth. Poison hemlock is toxic and can be fatal to people and to grazing livestock.

This infestation of poison hemlock, has already spread about 4 plants into the boundary line vegetation, of Standean Farm's grazing fields adjacent. Therefore this infestation of poison hemlock presents a current threat to the health and safety of Standean farm's grazing livestock.

The farmer at Standean Farm is a Brighton & Hove City Council tenant farmer. For the sake of the tenant and of Standean Farm's grazing livestock, please could Brighton & Hove City Council employ a team of people to control this infestation of poison hemlock in Wild Park local nature reserve, please.

Currently the poison hemlock is in flower, and this infestation needs to have been controlled by about the end of July, at the latest, if not well before. If this infestation is not controlled before the autumn, it will set seed, and in the winter its seed will become dispersed in the vicinity, creating a further infestation of poison hemlock, which will spread more into the boundary line vegetation of Standean farm's grazing fields, creating more of a threat to the health and safety of Standean farm's grazing livestock, for years to come, and into the indefinite future.

I would not want the precedent of a dead hemlock poisoned sheep or cow, belonging to the farmer, found in the Standean Farm grazing fields, in Wild Park local nature reserve, to be what stimulates Brighton & Hove City Council to control this infestation of poison hemlock in Wild Park local nature reserve.

Please sign this petition, and encourage the city council to properly control this infestation of poison hemlock in Wild Park local nature reserve.

On reaching 1 signatures An officer will investigate the matter further
