Include Hollingbury Park Avenue/ Hollingbury Terrace in the 2015 Surrenden/Five Ways Resident Parking Scheme Consultation

We the undersigned petition Brighton & Hove Council to include Hollingbury Park Avenue/ Hollingbury Terrace in the 2015 resident parking scheme consultation as a street north of Preston Drove under severe parking pressure, but currently excluded from the Surrenden and Five Ways area west of Ditchling Road proposed parking consultation

The extension to Controlled Parking Zone J, South of Preston Drove, has significantly increased the already severe parking pressures in roads north of Preston Drove.

A report is being presented to the Environment, Transport & Sustainability Committee on 17th March 2015 for permission to consult the Surrenden and Five Ways area west of Ditchling Road.

Hollingbury Park Avenue/ Hollingbury Terrace is excluded from this.

Hollingbury Park Avenue/ Hollingbury Terrace is already filling up as some residents of the existing extended zone choose to park their second cars, camper vans and company vehicles here for extended periods to avoid permit costs. We are already finding on regular occasions that we cannot park anywhere near our own homes. We have to double-park to unload groceries and children. Increasingly we have to walk long distances in the dark from where we are able to park to our homes.

If the Surrenden and Five Ways area west of Ditchling Road is consulted and residents parking scheme extended without the inclusion of Hollingbury Park Avenue/ Hollingbury Terrace, we are at risk of becoming a permit-free parking nightmare/ second-car/ camper van/ company vehicle dumping ground. It will literally be the only wholly-residential road in the immediate area excluded but accessible from Ditchling Road north of Fiveways. The steep hill to the east and the road/ traffic flow configurations mean that Hollingbury Park Avenue/ Hollingbury Terrace needs to be considered differently to the adjacent streets to the east and south east eg. Stanmer Park Road and Hollingbury Road. We are not being NIMBY about this, as there is a genuine hope that the natural and traffic flow barriers to the east of Hollingbury Park Avenue will lead dispersed parkers to consider alternative long-term arrangements.

This is not about our/your ideological position on having to pay to park in front of our own homes. This is about the natural and sensible inclusion of Hollingbury Park Avenue/ Hollingbury Terrace in the 2015 Surrenden/ Five Ways consultation, so that we are given the choice of whether or not to opt in to a residents parking scheme.
