The purpose of this report is to set out the background and rationale for these proposed expansions and to seek Cabinet Member endorsement to proceeding to the next stage of the statutory process, which is initial consultations with anyone who could be affected by the proposals.

Decision:

1.       That it be agreed that the CYPT move to the initial consultation process regarding the proposal to permanently expand Goldstone and Westdene Primary Schools by one form of entry and Queens Park Primary by half a form of entry with effect from September 2011.

Reasons for the decision:

Current and projected pupil numbers for the city as a whole show there is an immediate and ongoing need for additional school places in the city as a whole.  This need is most acute in south central hove and on the Brighton / Hove border.
